Product Introduction
WEHENGFOOD is a professional tomato paste supplier, manufacturer and exporter in China, supplying bulk tomato paste and canned tomato paste to importers, food factories, sauce brands and distributors worldwide.
What is tomato paste? It is a thick, concentrated tomato product made by cooking fresh, ripe tomatoes, removing the skins and seeds, and reducing the pulp until most of the water is gone. The ingredients list is simple: tomato paste ingredients = 100% tomatoes. Our paste is made from sun-ripened tomatoes in a single season, then aseptically packed to lock in its deep red color, rich flavor, and natural sweetness.
Our double concentrated tomato paste (28-30% Brix and above) delivers strong color and flavor in small dosages, which makes it economical for industrial use. Both hot break and cold break processes are available:
- Hot break: higher viscosity, ideal for ketchup, sauces, and soups.
- Cold break: brighter color and fresher tomato flavor, ideal for pasta sauce, pizza sauce, and premium products.
As a China tomato paste factory, we run modern Italian-type production lines, and our factory partners hold BRC, HACCP, ISO 9001, Halal, and Kosher certifications. We support OEM / private label orders with your own can design, size, and Brix.

Functions of Tomato Paste
What does tomato paste do? It acts as a flavor base, a natural colorant, and a thickener in one ingredient.
- Rich umami and savory depth. Concentration builds natural glutamates and sugars, adding body to sauces, stews, and braises.
- Natural red color. Provides a stable red tone from lycopene, so no artificial colorants are needed.
- Natural thickening. Adds viscosity and a smooth texture without starch or gums.
- Balanced sweet-acid taste. Rounds out sourness and brings tomato character to a recipe.
- Nutrition. Tomato paste is a good source of lycopene, along with vitamin C and potassium. It is low in calories, so is tomato paste healthy? Yes, it is a fat-free, naturally plant-based ingredient.
- Long shelf life and easy storage. Aseptic drums and sealed cans keep paste stable for 24 months unopened.
Uses and Applications
What is tomato paste used for? It is one of the most widely used ingredients in food manufacturing and cooking:
- Ketchup and tomato sauce: tomato paste to tomato sauce is the standard industrial route, diluted with water, sugar, salt, and spices.
- Pasta sauce and pizza sauce: the main base for spaghetti sauce, bolognese, and pizza sauce.
- Soups, stews, and curries: chili, beef stew, butter chicken, lasagna, and tomato soup.
- Canned and ready meals: baked beans, sardines in tomato sauce, instant noodle seasoning.
- Seasoning and condiments: BBQ sauce, chili sauce, marinades, and Worcestershire-style blends.
- Food service and retail repacking: repack into cans, tube tomato paste, sachets, and pouches for supermarkets, restaurants, and HORECA.
Tomato paste vs tomato sauce vs tomato puree: paste is the most concentrated (about 24-38% Brix), puree is thinner (about 8-24%), and sauce is the thinnest and usually seasoned. Importers often buy paste in bulk because it is the most cost-efficient base: one drum can be turned into several times its volume of finished sauce.

FAQ
Q1: What is the difference between hot break and cold break tomato paste?
Hot break paste is heated quickly after crushing, which gives higher viscosity and is best for ketchup and thick sauces. Cold break paste is processed at lower temperatures, which preserves a brighter color and fresher flavor, and suits pasta sauce and pizza sauce. We supply both types.
Q2: What Brix levels and drum specifications do you offer?
Bulk paste is available in 28-30%, 30-32% (hot or cold break) and 36-38% (cold break), packed in aseptic bags inside 220L steel drums. Four drums go on a pallet, and 80 drums fit in a 20′ container. Wooden bins are available for large orders.
Q3: What sizes of tomato paste cans do you offer?
From 70g to 4,500g, including 170g, 400g, 800g, 2,200g, 3,000g, and 4,500g tins, plus sachets and stand-up pouches. Brix options are 22-24%, 24-26%, and 28-30%. Custom labels and sizes are available.
Q4: What is the shelf life of tomato paste and how should it be stored?
Unopened drums and cans last 24 months from the production date (18 months for glass jars). Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Once opened, refrigerate and use within a few days, or freeze in small portions.
Q5: Does your tomato paste contain additives or preservatives?
No. Our canned and bulk paste is 100% tomato with no added colors, starch, or preservatives. Aseptic processing and sealed packaging provide the shelf life.
Q6: Are you a China tomato paste supplier with factory pricing?
Yes. WEHENGFOOD is a China tomato paste manufacturer and exporter supplying drum and canned paste directly from the factory, with OEM / private label service and flexible container loading.
