Product Introduction

Oxidized Starch is a modified starch produced by controlled oxidation of native starch. During production, selected starch is dispersed in water and treated under carefully controlled pH, temperature and reaction-time conditions. The oxidation process introduces carbonyl and carboxyl groups while partially reducing the molecular size of the starch.

Compared with native starch, oxidized starch provides lower gelatinization temperature, lower and more stable viscosity, better fluidity, higher paste clarity, improved whiteness, strong adhesion and excellent film-forming properties. After drying, it forms a strong, clear and continuous film.

As a professional oxidized starch manufacturer, supplier and exporter in China, WEHENGFOOD supplies two main grades:

  • Food Grade Oxidized Starch E1404
  • Industrial Grade Oxidized Starch

Different viscosity levels and specifications can be supplied according to the customer’s production process and application requirements.

Functions of Oxidized Starch

1. Low and Stable Viscosity

The controlled oxidation process partially reduces the molecular weight of starch, giving the starch paste lower viscosity and better viscosity stability. This allows oxidized starch to be used at relatively high concentrations while maintaining good fluidity.

2. Improved Whiteness and Paste Clarity

The oxidation process helps remove or reduce natural pigments and impurities. The resulting oxidized starch has high whiteness, good paste transparency and a clean appearance.

3. Excellent Film-Forming Properties

Oxidized starch produces a strong, clear, uniform and continuous film after drying. Compared with native starch films, it is less brittle and offers better surface coverage.

4. Strong Adhesion

Its stable paste and film structure provide good initial tack and bonding strength, making it suitable for paper coating, surface sizing and adhesive formulations.

5. Good Fluidity and Penetration

Oxidized starch paste maintains good flow and penetrates evenly into paper or textile fibres, helping improve processing uniformity and production efficiency.

6. Controlled Gelatinization

Its relatively low gelatinization temperature can reduce the heating requirement during processing, supporting easier preparation and lower energy consumption.

Applications of Food Grade Oxidized Starch E1404

Confectionery

Food-grade oxidized starch can be used in gummies, jelly candies, starch-based soft candies, lozenges and chewing tablets. It helps control viscosity, improve texture and produce a smooth, uniform structure.

Dairy and Emulsified Foods

It may be applied in dairy products, cold-dish emulsions and selected emulsified food systems where good fluidity and controlled thickening are required.

Sauces and Seasonings

Oxidized starch can be used in soy sauce and selected sauce formulations to provide mild thickening, improved stability and a consistent appearance.

Coatings and Fillings

Its film-forming and adhesion properties make it suitable for food coatings, glazing systems and filling applications.

Fried and Prepared Foods

Food-grade oxidized starch may be used in crispy fried chicken coating, puffed beans and other prepared foods, helping improve coating uniformity and product structure.

Applications of Industrial Grade Oxidized Starch

Paper Industry

Industrial oxidized starch is widely used as a paper surface-sizing agent and coating binder. Its low viscosity allows a higher solids concentration while maintaining good operating fluidity.

It can help:

  • Improve paper surface smoothness
  • Enhance printing and writing performance
  • Increase surface strength
  • Improve coating uniformity
  • Reduce paper dust and lint
  • Improve paper stiffness and compactness

Textile Industry

Oxidized starch is used as a textile sizing agent for cotton yarn, synthetic fibres and blended yarns. Its stable viscosity and good penetration help produce uniform sizing and reduce sizing spots.
